We suggest staying in Rio's South Zone. This is where you will find Rio's two most famous beaches: Copacabana and Ipanema. These two adjacent beaches meet at a small peninsula called Arpoador (see map at Travelers main page).
Since most out-of-town guests will be staying at the penthouse in Copacabana/Leme, we suggest you stay with us there. We have reserved several rooms. If you prefer a hotel, select one nearby. If in doubt, call Sean.

We have rented Rio's most luxurious penthouse right on the beach in Copacabana. Most of the wedding party and guests will be staying in this building. We have around 1000 square meters of space in the penthouse that we will use as a communal social area. The deck features BBQ and bar, lounge chairs, sauna and a small pool all in addition to spectacular ocean views over Copacabana. Email Sean to get a room. This hotel is not on the beach but overlooks the small park between Copacabana beach and Ipanema beaches. Its a two-minute walk to either one. No frills but the location provides excellent value.

The only hotel in Copacabana or Ipanema that is actually on the beach (all the rest are across the street from the beach). But be warned, this is a no-frills hotel.

Frommer's Review
The only budget-priced oceanfront hotel in Ipanema, the Arpoador Inn enjoys a privileged location on a quiet stretch of beach popular with the surf crowd, and just around the corner from Copacabana. Even better, the beach in front of the hotel is closed to cars and is therefore pleasantly quiet. The deluxe rooms all face the ocean. The furniture is a little dated but the rooms are bright and spotless. Obtaining these does require booking ahead; if they're full, the superior rooms, which look out over the street behind the beach, make an acceptable alternative. The only rooms to avoid are the standard ones, which are very small, dark, and look into an interior wall.

www.rentflatinrio.comDuring the low season, an apartment will offer the best value accommodation, especially for families. There are many great places to choose from (like the one pictured here). We would recommend Ipanema over Copacabana. Ipanema is less hectic and a little safer but still central. Leme at the far end of Copacabana is also less hectic.
